At a
Town of Cornelius Board of Commissioners meeting, former mayor
Harold Little recommended that the town erect a monument as a tribute to all
Cornelius veterans on which their names would be displayed for all to see and
honor. The board approved the recommendation and assigned the project to
Assistant Town Manager Andrew Grant.
To identify the names of veterans from Cornelius which would be placed on the monument for the public to see and
honor, Mr. Grant asked for assistance from Cornelius’
American Legion
Post 86. Post 86 Commander John Washam appointed a committee of
Legionnaires Gene McKinney, N.J. “Dee” D’Oria and Harold Little to assist him in
the project Contact information for both the Town of Cornelius and
the American Legion Post 86 are posted to the left.
